I've never had the privilege of bonding with a parrot, so I can't say that I completely understand. But some of my best friends have been my cats and, when I was a child, my dogs. I don't, though, believe that we're betraying trust when we have to make that call. Instead, I'm convinced that we're doing the right thing because there are no other, humane options left. I had to 'shop trifling crap in order to appease student editors because the bias was already there; they wanted their little friends' homecoming-queen pics to be PERFECT. So there I was, the only one in the entire department actually capable of editing a danged photo, removing that unsightly underarm flab from the pictures. Felt like crap for doing it...and I got out of journalism after a total of two years suffering through the ridiculousness of it all...but I did learn a few things. "Don't trust the media" is first and foremost. May the next Thanksgiving be the best in modern history, with the most reasons to be thankful and a very-sad Obama sitting in our White House.
